Janet Kolodzy has had the kind of professional career that aspiring journalists dream about. With a professional start in print journalism, Janet worked on newspapers in Little Rock and Cleveland for nine years before heading to Georgia in the late 1980s. As it happened, Janet landed in Atlanta just as an upstart cable station called CNN was starting to revolutionize broadcast journalism. In order to land a job as a writer and copyeditor for CNN, Janet taught herself how to write for broadcast. During her tenure of more than a decade at CNN, Janet worked in positions ranging from producer of the International Hour and World Report, to senior writer, editor, and producer at CNN International.
Janet’s outstanding journalistic experience in both the print and broadcast fields is a significant benefit for her students at Emerson. She believes the small size of Emerson’s program keeps it flexible and provides the opportunity for students to gain experience in various aspects of journalism. “Our students learn the importance of being willing and able to adapt in this field. They learn how to effectively draw from all their resources.”
