Admission

Emerson's graduate programs welcome applicants from across the United States and around the world. Admission is competitive and selective. We are looking for students whose academic and professional backgrounds, communication skills, and passion for the field meet the demands of their chosen program and promise a successful career.

All application materials, with the exception of GRE/GMAT test scores, must be submitted together in one package to ensure timely review. A complete application includes:

Submission of Application Credentials:

While we will make an effort to inform you if credentials are missing, you are responsible for ensuring the completion of your application. You will be assigned a pin and an ID number that will be noted on all correspondence from the Office of Graduate Admission. This will enable you to check the status of your application.

Applications that are not complete by the deadline will not be reviewed by the admission committee. Application fees are non-refundable and all application materials become the property of Emerson College and will not be returned.

Applications and credentials should be mailed to:

The Office of Graduate Admission

120 Boylston Street
Boston, MA 02116-4624

How admission decisions are made:

Admission is determined by faculty committees representing individual graduate programs. GRE/GMAT test scores, undergraduate performance, quality of response to the essay questions(s), and the writing sample (for Publishing & Writing and Creative Writing) are critical factors in the decision.

What an applicant says about him or herself in the essay(s) enables the admission committee to better gauge professional goals, relevant experience, knowledge of the field, reasons for seeking a particular degree at Emerson, as well as written communication skills. Letters of recommendation provide the committee with additional information about previous academic experience and potential for success in your chosen program and in the field.
