If you feel like you've got more than one passion that you'd like to pursue here at Emerson, you're not alone. In fact, many Emersonians find that selecting a minor can help supplement their major seamlessly, to help design their perfect discipline.
Take, for example, Kristen Belcher, a 2005 graduate of Emerson College, who studied Theatre. By minoring in psychology, Kristen was able to build the foundation for her graduate studies. This coming fall, Kristen will enroll at Lesley University to study Dance Therapy - the perfect combination of performance and understanding how people think and act.
Another example of the benefits of a minor at Emerson comes from rising junior Tyler Ashley, who is pursuing a major in Marketing Communication: Advertising & Public Relations. While his career aspirations are invested in the creative side of advertising, that hasn't stopped him from pursuing two minors here at Emerson. His minor in photography supplements his creative intuitions perfectly. His minor in dance, though, is a little different; in fact, it's just something that he loves to do. Amidst copy writing, statistics, and event planning course work, Tyler finds the time in his schedule to study ballet, jazz, and other course offerings through Emerson.
Transfer student Brian Samuels got his start at Emerson a little late. He's made up for the time, though, by tailoring his Emerson schedule to reflect exactly what he wants to do. As a BFA Film major, Brian is working on his senior thesis project: a documentary on the representation of the deaf community in film. To be able to capture the essence of the deaf community, it was crucial that Brian learn all about it. By pursuing a minor in hearing & deafness here at Emerson, Brian is able to interweave his interests perfectly. He's studying not just deaf culture, but American Sign Language, too.
As a student, you have endless opportunities to adapt your coursework to reflect your individual needs. Here’s a list of all the minors offered at Emerson:
