Non-U.S. Application Checklist
The following items are required submissions:
- Common Application
- International Supplement to the Secondary School Report (available online)
- You must submit an official transcript for yearly secondary school records that indicate courses taken and grades received. An English translation will be necessary for any and all documents in foreign languages (transcripts, recommendations, etc.). Translations must be performed by an official agency and accompanied by the original document. You are required to submit official proof that you have graduated from your secondary institution before matriculating at Emerson. Examples of acceptable documents include the following:
- Official, final secondary school transcript with a graduation date
- Signed, stamped letter from a school official stating that student has graduated and specifying the date of graduation
- For international students, there may not be a final high school transcript, but rather proof of completion of university prep acceptable to universities in their country, such as:
- Passing a national university entrance exam (e.g. French Bacc, British A-levels, Indian CBSE, etc.) OR
- A certificate from the school or government that shows successful completion of secondary school
- GED Certificate
- English language proficiency requirements
To be considered OFFICIAL, documents submitted must be:
- An original transcript and any examination results (no fax or photocopy accepted), OR
- If you only have ONE original and it is not possible to obtain another, please contact your secondary institution and have them notarize or stamp a certified true copy. This will be considered an official copy. We will only accept attestations from your secondary institution, the exam issuer, US Educational Advising centers and official translation agencies.
Visa Information
- September applicants: You do not have to submit additional visa documentation until after you have been accepted to the College and submit a tuition deposit.
- January applicants: You must provide documentation to obtain an I-20 and visa with your application.

English Language Proficiency Requirements
First year students who have not completed four years of secondary study in an institution that uses English as its language of instruction or transfer students who have not completed at least two years of post-secondary study in an institution that uses English as its language of instruction are required to submit scores from one of the tests listed below:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Emerson minimum requirements:
- Internet Based Test (iBT) 80
- Computer Based Test (CBT) 213
- Paper Based Test 550
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Emerson minimum requirement: 7
