Does my college participate in the Next Step Emerson Scholarship program?

Currently, students who matriculate at the following community colleges are eligible:

  • Borough of Manhattan Community College (NY)
  • Bunker Hill Community College (MA)
  • Miami Dade College (FL)
  • Massasoit Community College (MA)
  • Montgomery College (MD)

The Next Step Emerson program is in its initial year and we are continuing to enroll community colleges into the program. If you are a community college administrator and would like to speak to an Emerson representative regarding enrollment in the program, please contact Lisa Yaeger at 617-824-8443.

Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Students must have earned an Associates Degree from one of the participating community colleges (or have an Associates Degree by the time they matriculate at Emerson). Students must have a 3.2 GPA to apply. Students who apply for this scholarship must plan to enroll full-time at Emerson and complete their Emerson degree in five or less semesters.  Students must also apply for need based financial aid by posted deadlines. A student’s eligibility for need based financial assistance will be a factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship.

How do I apply for the Next Step Emerson Scholarship?

Students must complete a scholarship application and required essay. You may apply electronically or download the application online. You may request a paper application by calling the Undergraduate Admission Office at 617 824-8600.

Students must also complete Admission and Financial Aid applications by deadlines.

What are the deadlines I need to keep track of?

The following deadlines must be met to be eligible to receive the Next Step Emerson Scholarship:

  • March 15: Deadline for completing your transfer admission application.
  • April 1: Deadline for Next Step Emerson scholarship application.
  • April 1: Deadline for receipt of your financial aid application.

Please do not wait for your admission notification to complete and submit all required financial aid applications and documents. For more information regarding financial aid at Emerson, contact the Office of Student Financial Services online or by calling 617 824-8655.

If I am awarded a Next Step Emerson scholarship, will I receive the tuition benefits throughout my time at Emerson?

Yes, provided you maintain a 3.0 GPA while you are enrolled.

How will I know what courses will transfer to Emerson?

Only courses similar to those offered at Emerson will be considered for transfer. Students who have attended a junior or community college may transfer a maximum of 64 credits into Emerson. Courses with a grade of "C" (73% or 2.0) or better are eligible for transfer. A Pass "P" or "CR" grade must equal a "C" or better. When a student is accepted for transfer admission, a credit evaluation will be done and sent to the student to inform them of their credit standing. You can view additional information regarding transfer credit policies online.

Are there any courses that Emerson will not accept for transfer?

Emerson does not accept the following courses in transfer: Physical Education; Engineering, Mechanics and Technical; Hotel, Restaurant Management, Travel and Hospitality; College Success, Orientation and First Year Experience; ESL courses; Pre-College level (Pre-100 level) courses.

If I am accepted to Emerson, what are my housing options?

While you are more than welcome to apply for on-campus housing consideration, (a housing interest form can be found in your acceptance packet), more than likely you will need to find housing off-campus. Our Off Campus Student Services (OCSS) office can help you with this process. The OCSS provides you with guidance in finding apartments in the Boston area and can also help with finding roommates.
