Application Requirements

Emerson accepts the Common Application for Transfer Admission and requires a Transfer Application Supplement. Students whose interests and abilities are compatible with the College’s specialty in communication and the arts are welcome to apply.

Admission is competitive and based on a thorough review of your academic performance, personal goals, recommendations, extracurricular or community-based activities, and employment experience. A complete transfer admission application includes:

• Common Application for Transfer Admission and Transfer Application Supplement
  
• $65 application fee
• Admission Essay (400 to 600 words) and Short Answer (100 to 200 words)
• Official, final secondary school transcript indicating proof of graduation or GED
• Official transcript from each college or university attended
  Successful candidates typically have maintained a 3.0 grade point average in previous college coursework; however, individual circumstances as described by the candidate will be considered.
  
• One Instructor Evaluation from someone who has taught you in a college subject
• College Official’s Report including current year courses and grade
  
• SAT or ACT test results
  Test scores are not required if—by the time you enroll—you will have (1) earned an Associate’s Degree, (2) will be at the junior level or above at your current institution (60 to 64 credits), or (3) will have been away from high school for three or more years.)

Additional Requirements

Film

If you are applying to the Media Production major for Film, you must complete one of the following two requirements:

1. Register online at Slideroom.com and upload a 5-7 minute video sample and statement/résumé describing your role in its production or,
2. Mail a 5-10 page script (with your name and address) to the Office of Undergraduate Admission, 120 Boylston Street Boston, MA 02116-4624.

Performing Arts

If you are a transfer student applying for a program in the Performing Arts, you can only apply for September Admission. The Department accepts transfer applications for all programs except the BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre, and you must complete the additional online requirements found at Stagedoor consisting of a theatrical résumé and, depending upon your major, an audition, portfolio/interview, or essay.

You may preview these major-specific requirements online but will need an Emerson-issued ID and PIN number in order to complete them—which will be sent to you by regular mail only after you submit the Common Application and Emerson College Application Supplement.

Transfer Student Summer Intensive in Acting
If you are admitted to the BA in Theatre Studies (with a performance emphasis) or BA in Theatre Education (with a performance emphasis) you will be required to enroll in a 5-week, 5 days-a-week Summer Intensive Acting Training Sequence.

Checking Your Application Status

After you submit both your Common Application and Application Supplement, we will mail you an Emerson-issued ID and PIN number. Using these numbers, you may check the status of your application materials online at Interactive Services. Thank you!
